Just about every hockey fan you talk to will tell you they are familiar with the classic short story ‘The Hockey Sweater’. It was written by Canadian author Roch Carrier and is about a real experience he went through as a child when his mother got him a Toronto Maple Leafs sweater instead of a No. 9 Maurice Richard Montreal Canadiens sweater.

On Wednesday night, Alexander Ovechkin scored 35 seconds into the game against the Pittsburgh Penguins and it just so happened to be the 545th of his career. The goal not only gave Ovi his 1,000th career NHL point, but it moved him into sole possession of 29th on the NHL’s all-time goal list, one goal ahead of Maurice Richard. With that being said, we recreated the short story and gave it a modern day twist, as if it was told in Russia.

Ovechkin became the 84th NHL player to reach the 1,000-point mark with his 20th goal of the season, and became just the 4th Russian in NHL history to total 1,000 career points.

Congrats, Alexander Ovechkin! We know there are plenty more goals on the way.
