On Thursday night, Maple Leafs centre John Tavares will return to Long Island for the first time since leaving for his hometown club.

Tavares is all but surely get a negative reaction when his name is announced, or whenever he touches the puck by the Isles fans in attendance. But not all Islanders fans will be sour with Tavares. Actor Kevin Connolly, who chimes in with takes on the team via Twitter from time-to-time, wants fans in Uniondale, NY, to take the opposite approach, however unlikely that seems.

You can imagine what if his mentions looked like.

“I really embraced being an Islander,” Tavares told Mark Masters on Tuesday.

“I loved it. It was a great place to play. I never didn’t enjoy my time there even when times weren’t going well. I did everything I could to just help the team hopefully win a Stanley Cup and unfortunately, we weren't able to do that and I take responsibility, especially being the captain, not doing a good enough job consistently."

Tavares spent nine seasons in New York before joining the Leafs to complete his "childhood dream."

The 28-year-old is three goals shy of tying his career-high of 38. With a home game against the Oilers on Wednesday night, just imagine the response if Johnny T is able to set a new single-season goal high against his former club.
