The International Olympic Comimittee has made their decision on Russia’s participation in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang and it was a bold one.

While clean Russian athletes will be allowed to compete in the tournament under a neutral flag or as an “Olympic Athlete from Russia (OAR)” without their flag or anthem, Russia has been banned from participation. While this technically won’t harm the actual participation of clean athletes in the Games, it could affect the KHL’s participation decision or even a Russian boycott of the games.

Some Russians have already reacted to the decision including Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Burmistrov.

Overall, it’s hard to know what information the athletes have when they’re asked about the information, because it’s easy to see that Russia is banned from the Olympics and assume no athletes can compete. We’re sure many other athletes will react to this news, especially if the KHL decision comes down soon.

If there are any restrictions placed on that league, it will affect many countries in the running for hockey medals including Canada.
