He was just a single vote short of becoming the second ever player to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame with unanimous voting, but one of the greatest to ever do it is headed to Cooperstown all the same. Derek Jeter was a no-brainer first-ballot selection this year.

Many players reached out with congratulations for Jeter on his induction, but there might not be anybody it could mean more from than his longtime New York Yankees teammate, Alex Rodriguez. The two held things down on the left side of the diamond together for a decade, winning the World Series in 2009.

Rodriguez took to Instagram with a lengthy, heartfelt message for Jeter upon his reaching the Hall of Fame. “To The Captain Derek Jeter - congratulations on taking your rightful place in the Baseball Hall of Fame where you will be, for eternity, as one of history’s greatest players, at any position, in any era.”

It was the rock n jock MTV game (in our teal uniforms) that we shared a cab to the stadium from our hotel and said, man if we can sign a lifetime contract for a million dollars and 5+ years we would do it. I'm glad we did not have a pen or contract. . I was lucky to be by your side on the left side of the infield for so many years. I needed you more than you needed me. You were our #tablesetter on our magical 2009 run and I can’t thank you enough. #RE2PECT . And a special congratulations to Larry Walker on finally getting in where you belong. A ferocious hitter with a super strong arm and amazing athleticism. #Congrats 🇨🇦

In his Instagram post, Rodriguez also made sure to congratulate this year’s other Hall of Fame inductee, Larry Walker, who makes it to Cooperstown in his final year on the ballot.

Baseball fans were thrilled to see Walker become the second ever Canadian to enter the Hall, although nobody had a better reaction to the news than Walker himself.
