Erik Karlsson is heading out of town.

On Thursday afternoon, the Ottawa Senators shipped him to the San Jose Sharks in a packed deal. In return, Ottawa received multiple players, prospects and draft picks.

During his time in the city, Karlsson was nothing but respected by his peers. The 28-year-old served a lengthy period as the captain of the organization and his wife, Melinda Curry, resdies there. After the news became official, a visibly emotional Karlsson took to the podium to thanks the city of Ottawa and answer questions regarding the move. Afterward, he went out of his way to personally thank media members. You just don’t see this kind of stuff from every player in the league.

Karlsson forever grateful for time in Ottawa, never imagined leaving

While Sens fans reflect on their time with their coveted defenceman, Sharks fans are already glowing about the possibility of him playing with Brent Burns together on a power-play.
