Nobody goes to a sporting event to cheer for the referees.

No, fans go to sporting events to cheer on their favourite players and teams, but for some weird (and awesome) reason, we've seen a group of people cheer for the officials at an NHL game twice this season.

Wednesday night in Washington, a big group of fans dressed up as referees for the Capitals and Blackhawks game and cheered on the officials with an incredible chant.

As per NHL.com, the group was made up of actual referees from the Washington metro area.

Usually fans rip on officials at games, especially when they make a call they don't agree with, but it's nice to see some people come to games to cheer on referees and in our opinion, this needs to happen much more often.
