Imagine you’re at home, perhaps lying down on the couch and decide to browse through Twitter. You’re scrolling through your typical sports news until all of the sudden… you find out you’ve been placed on waivers.

Through a tweet BY YOUR MOM.

According to Vicki Perlini, that is how her son, Brendan, found out he was waived by the Edmonton Oilers. In a response to the Oilers’ tweet stating the news, Vicki stated “Pretty darn bad when the players has to find out from his mom off Twitter don’t ya think!!!” The tweet has since been deleted but went viral during its short time up on the web.

Yikes. Tough go for Brendan, who could be onto his fifth team by the age of 25 if he doesn’t clear waivers.

For whatever reason, teams seem to go about these kinds of moves in the strangest of ways. Matt Duchene would never find himself on waivers (at least not anytime soon), but he did manage to get yanked in the middle of a game… after getting traded from the Colorado Avalanche to the Ottawa Senators IN THE MIDDLE OF A GAME. Could the team not have let him know what was going on BEFORE he laced up his skates?

Why not just scratch the guy?!

Hopefully teams can use this whole Perlini experience for how not to deal with placing a player on waivers. Yikes.
