The rumours are officially swirling.

Josh Donaldson has been a superstar for the Toronto Blue Jays over the last three years, even managing to win the American League MVP award in 2015 – his first year dressed in Toronto blue and white. Unfortunately for the man nicknamed “Bringer of Rain”, Donaldson’s success as a Blue Jay could only translate to two consecutive ALCS appearances before failing to make playoffs in the most recent campaign.

Now, Blue Jays fans have had to deal with rumours that the all-star could be on the move in a step towards team rebuild. Although Jays’ manager Ross Atkins has mentioned that they do not intend to trade Donaldson, there have been other teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, that have been linked in potential trade interest.

While some players may be deterred from coming to Canada based solely on the cold weather they may have to deal with at either end of the season, Josh Donaldson seems to enjoy the cold. On Christmas, Donaldson was joined by friends and family to hit the streets for one of Canada’s favourite activities – winter road hockey.

No, a love of road hockey will probably not factor into any major decision making process, but it’s nice to see that a league superstar playing for Canada’s only team embraces the culture of this hockey-loving country.
