For most hockey people, a player-signed stick would be an incredible gift to receive for Christmas. Rare, personalized… it checks off a lot of boxes for what goes into a good present.

For Ben Hutton, the gift of a stick proved to be even better than usual.

For the Los Angeles Kings’ secret santa, apparently Hutton was tasked with buying for Doughty. Instead of giving a trinket, a gift card, or any of the other common gifts, Hutton decided to tap into Doughty’s well-known rivalry with Calgary Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk.

It’s too bad that this article from The Athletic may result in the mystery behind who gifted it getting ruined, but we’re just happy to know it happened.

No word on whether Doughty snapped the stick over his knee. We’ll keep you posted on that one!
