Bianca Andreescu is Canada’s rising star in Women’s tennis, and she made her biggest splash yet last week when she defeated Angelique Kerber in the BNP Paribas Open final at Indian Wells.

This bolstered an already impressive run of tournaments, and let the tennis world know that there was a new face in town.

As if the tennis gods were having a little fun with it, Andreescu then found herself face to face with the same opponent she just beat – the 8th-seeded Kerber – just six days later. While things appeared to end on good terms after their last match, with Kerber praising Andreescu’s game, it didn’t appear to go quite that way this time around.

Following Andreescu’s three-set victory over the German player, the microphones caught Kerber saying something during the two’s post-match handshake. The handshake itself looked frosty enough, but it is widely circulating that Kerber may have called Andreescu “the biggest drama queen ever”.

Here’s the clip so you can hear it for yourself.

It sounds pretty clear, although many believe that it isn’t what she said. Andreescu did receive medical attention in both matches, so it may have had something to do with that, but medical attention isn’t exactly rare in the sport. There would be something a little frustrating about having to wait around for a massage to happen to your opponent that’s beating you 4-1 in the 3rd set.

Andreescu knew that something had been said, although she wasn’t completely clear on what it was. Her response was to let her tennis do the talking.
