Okay Canada, pick your jaws up off the floor so we can talk about this for a second.

Bianca Andreescu is off to the U.S. Open final.

One year ago that may not have meant much to you, because one year ago you may not have even known who Bianca Andreescu was. Even though she comes from the great white north, Mississauga to be exact, it’s safe to say most Canucks wouldn’t have known about her a year ago.

Now you, your friends, your family, and your dog knows who Bianca Andreescu is, because she’s shot to the moon quicker than Apollo 11. Just when her stock seemed to be bursting at the seams, it got even higher with a berth in the U.S. Open final.

Not only is she in the final, but she’s squaring off against one of the greatest female athletes of all time – Serena Williams.

With Serena a hero in the sport for much of Andreescu’s upbringing, it’s no surprise that the Canadian couldn’t hold back her shock after advancing to play Williams.

The Williams name is very familiar around the U.S. Open, as Serena has won six of her nine appearances. Her sister, Venus, has also won the tournament twice. She is the last player to make it as far as Bianca while playing in their U.S. Open debut.

Not terrible company at all!
