Bob McKenzie is one of the most well-respected names in all of hockey, so when he sends out a message you know it’s received loud and clear around the NHL.

In 2015-16 several rules were introduced in the NHL, some good, some bad. Overwhelmingly, 3-on-3 overtime has been a success. The only thing that people don’t like about it is that there’s not enough (People often think the period should be 10 minutes instead of five).  On the other end of the spectrum is the dreaded offside review.

It quickly became the most hated rule in hockey two seasons and fans were baffled when it wasn’t removed or at least altered this offseason (There is the penalty for incorrect coaches challenges, but that’s not the solution to this problem).

McKenzie sounded off on the NHL’s hesitance to change the rule and even offered a solution:

The solution seems so simple, but nothing is ever simple with sports leagues.

Trying to get all 31 teams on board with anything can’t be easy, but it’s shocking that this wasn’t changed. It’s pretty much unanimously hated by hockey fans, media and players, so if it doesn’t get changed this offseason, it will be shocking.
