The 2019 World Juniors are just around the corner but this year’s tourney won’t be Hockey Canada’s main focus tomorrow.

On Wednesday night, Bob McKenzie revealed on Twitter that Hockey Canada will announce Edmonton and Red Deer as the hosts for the 2021 tournament on Thursday. Edmonton last hosted the event in 2012 whereas Red Deer last played the role in 1995.

The tournament is set to be played in Czech Republic for 2020. 2021 will mark the fourth time it’s being played on Canadian soil in six years. Canada captured gold in Buffalo in 2018 and will look to repeat on home soil when the tournament kicks off on Boxing Day in British Columbia.

Canada lost out on gold in a shootout against the Americans the last time Canada hosted the tournament in 2016 so they’ll look to switch that trend this winter. If not, they’ll have to wait until 2021 for their next shot.
