Brad Marchand is known as one of the best trolls in the NHL, but where his trolling might be underrated is off the ice.

Marchand has been more active on Twitter over the past couple of years, and whether he’s tweeting at fans, teammates or his opponents, he’s always pretty clever. His latest antics come after a big night from Mitch Marner and it seems like he’s trying to get under the skin of Leafs fans by using one of their biggest worries: Mitch Marner’s contract.

He is now on pace to score 100 points and joined an elite group of Leafs players to hit 80 points in 66 or fewer games. Marchand is pretty impressed.

We doubt Marner would ever get more than what Auston Matthews did, but this is some expert-level trolling from Marchand. One thing is for sure, that the Toronto hype train definitely makes it a little more difficult for teams to get players on affordable deals and Marchand is leaning into that.

Just think about it, Brayden Point and Mikko Rantanen both have higher points per game than Marner and you don’t hear nearly the same amount of chatter about numbers that big for them.

This isn’t the first time Marchand has complimented a Leafs player either. Maybe this helped Matthews get that big deal.
