It doesn’t seem like long ago the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they had agreed to terms with one of the most highly respected head coaches in the league, and that he was ready to spend the next decade behind the bench at Scotiabank Arena.

That was not the case, as Mike Babcock was let go from the team on Wednesday evening.

In what could only have been a difficult decision, Babcock was let go after the Leafs couldn’t stop the bleeding, losing their 6th straight game on Tuesday to the Vegas Golden Knights. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back, as all season long the Leafs have struggled to put it together, constantly playing catch up, and often not being able to.

Brendan Shanahan addressed the media about the difficult decision. In a short presser, Shanahan explained the decision while also expressing excitement for the Sheldon Keefe era.

It had been talked about for a while, and Shanahan, Dubas, and the rest of the Leafs brass finally pulled the trigger.
