Andre De Grasse is bringing home the 200-metre gold medal and he’s the first Canadian to capture gold in the event in nearly 100 years!

De Grasse took over top spot in the race in the final strides and captured Canada’s 15th medal of the Tokyo Olympics and the first gold medal won by a Canadian man at these Summer Games.

De Grasse was the first Canadian man to capture a medal at the Tokyo Olympics and is the first and only man at these Summer Games to hold a gold for Canada, and all of Canada had their eyes on him on Wednesday morning.

De Grasse entered the race as the favourite after setting a personal best and Canadian record in the qualifying race before this one, so it’s only fitting that he came right back and set another Canadian record and personal best in the race that mattered the most.
