The wait is over, Canada.

After back to back Olympic bronzes, the rally cry for Canada’s women’s soccer team headed to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics was simple: change the colour.

The Canadian team was done being third best, and after a thrilling victory over arch-rival USWNT, Canada fought their way to the program’s first-ever shot at the Olympic gold, and they didn’t squander it.

After a back and forth battle between teams that saw each side score a penalty kick marker, Sweden and Canada headed to extra time. It wasn’t enough, and the Olympic gold was decided by penalty kicks for the first time ever in women’s soccer.

It came right down to the wire, with both teams making impressive saves in PKs, but in the end, Canada won the country’s first ever Olympic women’s soccer gold.

As you can imagine, the reaction has been widespread, and it looks like the entire country is on their feet.

What a moment for the team, and for the entire country.
