There have been all types of tributes for the victims of the Humboldt bus crash, from over $6 million raised in a GoFundMe fundraiser to many on social media sharing images of their hockey sticks being put out in solidarity, but this is one of the most creative -- and touching -- memorials yet.

From Canadian artist Silvia Pecota, here is a hand drawing that pits members of the Humboldt Broncos against Jonathan Pitre, the teenager and longtime Senators fan who lived with a genetic disease known as epidermolysis bullosa and passed away on April 4th.

I am told this is the work of Canadian artist Silvia Pecota. It’s beautiful.

Pitre, whose story was first brought to prominence after a 2012 interview from the Ottawa Citizen, was well known around the NHL community for his love of the sport. The Senators invited him to the 2015 NHL Awards, and after his passing, announced that they will wear special stickers on their helmet in honour of his memory.

In that way, Pitre’s story mirrors that of the Humboldt Broncos -- both have seen monumental outreach and support from the hockey community in the face of tragedy. This picture is a heartwarming tribute to both, and one that serves as a reminder of the unity that is so strong in the hockey community.
