Earlier this morning, we shared a story on TSN broadcaster Brian Munz’s method of memorializing the Humboldt victims: leaving a hockey stick outside of his door. After Munz tweeted it out, it caught on quickly among his followers:

Though this movement originated on Munz’s Twitter account, it has gained traction rapidly since our earlier post, and even spread to the United States. As picked up by CNN:

“The response [to Munz] was overwhelming, with hundreds of people from both Canada and the United States posting photos of their tributes on Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtags #putyoursticksout and #humboldtstrong.”

An overview of the hashtag #PutYourSticksOut — which, notably, wasn’t used in Munz’s original tweet and only adopted by the community afterwards — finds countless social media users leaving their own hockey sticks outside in solidarity with the Humboldt crash victims, with more and more joining in by the minute:

Joining in on the movement as well are multiple NHL players:

Again, if you wanted to see for yourself how quickly people are joining into this movement, we suggest looking up the #PutYourStickOut hashtag, or even the official NHL account’s own list of its players on Twitter. The pace with which posts are being shared is thoroughly heartwarming, and it goes to show how resolute the hockey community is in its support of its own.

Of course, symbolism only goes so far, and if you’d like to send hard cash to help out the Humboldt crash victims, you can do that too at their GoFundMe page here.
