This season, Carter Hart and Jakub Voracek were set to use special gold sticks designed by childhood cancer patients as part of the Fearless 43 initiative led by local MLS team Philadelphia Union.

However, three-year-old Lucy McCabe, who designed Hart’s stick, passed from cancer in September, and Hart decided to adjust his plans.

He invited the McCabe family to Wednesday’s home game against the Washington Capitals, and delivered the stick to Lucy’s older sister Molly after the game.

This is a special thing for Hart to do for the family, and it’s awesome to see. Hart and Voracek are among a number of Philadelphia athletes involved in the Fearless 43 initiative, joining the Union’s own players as well as those from the Phillies and the Eagles.

Back in September, Union captain Alejandro Bedoya celebrated one of his goals with a special tribute to Lucy after her passing, and it was just voted as the team’s best goal celebration of the year.
