Sometimes even just thinking about the fact that there are people out there that cheer for the Cleveland Browns is enough to make the average sports fan tear up. The franchise is historically bad, and every time it looks like they are possibly ready to turn the corner, they manage to lower the bar even further.

This season has seen everything from their usual quarterback circus to a fan literally blaming the Browns hopeless condition for his death in an obituary, not to mention that they became the second franchise in league history to lose all 16 regular season games (joining the 2008 Detroit Lions).

Well, it seems as though the Browns’ fans have acclimatized to their position in the league cellars.

On Saturday, the Browns’ faithful gathered outside FirstEnergy Centre to have a parade celebrating their perfect losing season. When you cheer for a team as bad as the Browns, you have to make the most out of any reason to celebrate.

When the parade was announced, people speculated that it may not garner a lot of people. But as the week rolled along, the Facebook page continued to grow. By the time of the actual parade, it had grown to 6,672 people marked “Going”, with 21,557 more marked “Interested”. Organizer Chris McNeil asked attendees to bring an item for the Cleveland Food Bank, so it’s all for a good cause.

What do you know? People actually showed up.

Well, as fun as that was, let’s hope it doesn’t happen again next year. It’s time for a new losing champion. Seriously.
