There’s two things Simpsons lovers north of the border can particularly appreciate about the show; 1) the writers love poking fun at Canadians, and 2) they’ve historically given hockey a solid amount of love. All these years later, in the show’s 30th season, nothing has seemed to change.

On Sunday night, creator Matt Groening & co. released an episode focused on Bart’s new eSports career and of course, managed to slip in a little hockey reference. We’re not looking to play spoiler for you, however, we feel it’s our duty as a Canadian website to point out that Bart’s team, the Evergreen Terrors, took on a certain Western Canadian city...

The Calgary ‘Lames’.

Ah, the maple syrup dump. Classic!

Okay, so this little inclusion was a cute way to give hockey and Canada some love (kind of?), but it’s far from the first small detail involving the sport that has stuck out to fans in the past. Take this one from an episode in 1999 for example, which actually predicted the cup would be in Vegas.

And speaking of predictions... how about this one of USA beating Sweden in a Curling gold medal from an episode that aired on February 14, 2010?

Okay, now back to hockey and Canada. The Simpsons have had some incredible cameos in the past, but few have been better than the Sports’ consensus GOAT, Wayne Gretzky. Hey, at least they made sure to give him his iconic flow from the 80’s?

There must be a writer who really loves one of the California teams in the Pacific Division or just has it out for the Flames but in the end, Calgary shouldn’t care all that much because they just punched their ticket into the 2019 postseason on Sunday night. Hate to break it to you, salty writer...

Honestly, it’d be a surprise if a fan didn’t bring one of these signs for whichever teams faces Calgary in the first run of the playoffs. We can always count on The Simpsons to give us some quality hockey content!
