As Minor League Baseball makes its long-anticipated return after being canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re able to already see the amazing stories of minor leaguers, especially through the incredible come-back journey of one player in specific.

On Tuesday, the San Francisco Giants Triple-A affiliate Sacramento River Cats announced their 2021 Opening Day roster which included Drew Robinson, a former player within both the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals organizations, and a suicide attempt survivor.

Per ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Robinson had shot himself in the right side of his head last April, which led to the loss of right eye, along with his sense of smell and taste.

Since then, Robinson has made it his mission to be an advocate for ending the stigma surrounding mental health by speaking out on his own journey.

On Wednesday morning, Robinson took to Twitter to express his excitement on being a “one-eyed professional baseball player” and just how movie-esque the moment feels for him.

Making a comeback just ten months later, Robinson’s inspiring story gets even better as the season opener on May 6th is set to be against his hometown team the Las Vegas Aviators.

The outfielder’s journey is one of the most inspiring stories to come out of not only baseball but sports as a whole and we will definitely be following his baseball journey.

Robinson’s story can be viewed through Passan’s article and within the ESPN Documentary, Alive: The Drew Robinson story.
