After 27 long years, the country of Egypt will finally participate in a World Cup, as they became the 15th team to qualify for next year’s tournament in Russia.

Facing Congo, Egypt found themselves in a deadlock at 1-1 when they were rewarded a 94th-minute penalty kick.

Liverpool’s Mohammed Salu was given the golden opportunity to send his country to soccer’s highest level of international competition and he did not disappoint. Already with his country’s first goal of the match, Sanu stepped up and struck one past in the bottom left corner to secure a victory.

Egypt last qualified for the World Cup in 1990 and finished last in a group with England, the Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands. Salah, 25, was terrific throughout the match, and landed four of his six shots on target.

The country was overwhelmed with elation, and videos of ecstatic Egyptians circulated across the internet, including this great reaction below from a passionate supporter named Ashraf.

Thousands of supporters flooded the streets of Egypt, with red, white and black flags being waived in support of the nation.

You can't help but feel a little proud for their nation.
