It's hard to believe that the Ottawa Senators were one win away from playing in the Stanley Cup Final last season based on how disastrous this season has been.

Hope was in the air, especially early on in the season when the Sens traded for Matt Duchene, but things just haven't clicked on the ice and the fans' frustration with owner Eugene Melnyk has continued to grow off the ice.

In response to his team's frustrating season, on Thursday Melnyk and the Senators sent out an emotional letter to season ticket holders:

A few things jump out from the letter.  For starters, Melnyk is committed to keeping the Senators in Ottawa which is great news for Senators fans.

Furthermore, Melnyk stated that the team needs to get younger, faster and more skilled, so it's fair to guess that moves will be made in order to acquire players who check off those boxes.

The most important thing to note, though, it that Melnyk has his eyes on the future rather than dwelling on this season and as hard as that may be to do, it's the only thing to do at this point in time because with so much talent on their roster already, brighter days are ahead for the Sens.
