As much as we all love presents at  Christmas time, the true meaning of the special holiday is giving back and helping others out, especially those in need.

Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane decided to trade in his hockey helmet for a Santa hat, and invited 50 underprivileged kids from King Center Charter School in Buffalo to the upscale Tempo restaurant on Delaware Avenue, and providing some pretty sweet gifts, like Beats headphones.

"There's a lot of kids that aren't as fortunate as others," the 26-year-old told the Buffalo News. "When Christmas time comes around, the gifts, the presents and all that go into it, some kids don't get to experience that. I'm fortunate enough to be able to provide an opportunity to help some kids that are less fortunate and wouldn't be able to experience those things."

Back in 2015, the Sabres sniper took 50 kids out for dinner before taking them on a $10,000 shopping spree to Target.

During the summer, Kane took to the streets of Vancouver and gave out pizzas to the homeless in one of the rougher area’s rougher areas known as the Downtown Eastside.

It’s great to see kind acts on display during this time of the year.

While there’s been no short of off-ice controversies following Kane in the early stages of his career, the 26-year-old appears to have matured over the last few years. Now in his ninth professional season, Kane has taken on a leadership role with the Sabres, and has continued his pattern of using his platform and power in helping others out.

While the pending unrestricted free agents future in Buffalo is uncertain, you can’t help but applaud Kane’s efforts by putting a smile on the faces of many kids in a selfless manner.

Kane has 31 points in 34 games this season, and is expected to be the most coveted player at the trade deadline.
