As Canadians, we know the amount of fun that can come out of a simple sheet of ice. Outdoor skating rinks are the surface responsible for lots of laughs, competition, and friendly games of puck. For one neighbourhood in Nepean, Ontario, they may have to find a new place to play.

But not before the hockey community has something to say about it.

CTV reporter Mike Arsalides shared the heartbreaking reason why the city asked this family to take down their rink – apparently it was “an eyesore”. That’s a tough idea for Canadians to wrap their minds around considering outdoor rinks have been a massive part of so many people’s upbringing.

Needless to say, the hockey community had something to say about this. Even the mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson, got involved.

It looks like part of the problem may also be that the rink partially touches on city property.

People don’t seem to care, though. They just want the kids to have their rink.
