Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury is widely considered one of, if not the greatest rock and roll frontman of all time. His flamboyant enthusiasm, paired with his unique, theatrical song writing produced some incredible live anthems that will go down in history as some of the best performances of the time. A Freddie resurgence has also taken place over the past few weeks with the release of Bohemian Rhapsody, a look into the life of Queen’s famous singer.

As a result, Leafs fans are loving these throwback photos of Freddie back in the glory days when he took the stage in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens. Instead of the dramatic costumes Freddie would sometimes break out, he instead rocked out in a Leafs jersey, customized with the number 7 and his first name scrawled across the front.

In the first of the two photos, guitarist (and one of the executive producers of Bohemian Rhapsody)Brian May is also seen receiving a jersey. The jersey Freddie is pictured with in the second photo appears to be a different one from the first.

Not to be outdone, the Montreal Canadiens also made it into the fabled wardrobe of Freddie Mercury. He rocked out with a Habs hat during the video of Another One Bites the Dust.

Hockey and Rock and Roll, can you think of a better combination?
