Four years ago, Colin Kaepernick took a knee ahead of an NFL game to protest police brutality and racism.

Though it was a brave one, it proved to be a costly decision. His actions were mistaken by many as disrespectful to the flag and those who’ve served, and ultimately cost him his career.

Finally, the world has caught up, and finally understands the message that Kaepernick was trying to send. More and more people are starting to see the systemic racism that has worked against BIPOC in North America, and more athletes are using their platforms to help bring attention to the issue.

Today was the first game for both Florida and Ole Miss since the SEC announced it would play a conference-only season, and the teams issued a joint statement ahead of the game.

The teams both took a knee to ‘acknowledge the unrest in our country surrounding the treat of African Americans’, and the act of unity was encouraging.

Good on both teams for continuing to keep attention on the important issue.
