Goalie masks are probably the most personalized piece of equipment in the game of hockey and Garrett Sparks has decided to make his new mask about something that has clearly affected him.

We’d be surprised if there was anyone in the hockey world that didn’t feel affected by the Humboldt crash in early April, and several people have tried to remember the victims in different ways. We’ve seen a lot of involvement with equipment, with the #SticksOutForHumboldt movement and athletes like Joey Votto, Marcus Stroman, Team Canada and many more putting tributes on their gear.

In the latest example of this, Garrett Sparks actually had a tribute to the Humboldt junior team’s goalie, Parker Tobin, painted into the back of his mask.

The designer of the mask, Sylvie Marsolais, spoke with Cat Silverman of In Goal Magazine and she explained a little bit about how it is “designed to look like the back of Tobin’s jersey”.

She also offered a couple different looks on her Instagram.
