For years, football players have celebrated touchdowns by spiking balls into the painted end zone. No one in NFL history, though, has slammed the ball with more force and energy than New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.

The 6’6, 265 pound monster elected to skip voluntary OTAs, but he’s practicing his infamous football celebratopm nonetheless. Gronk was found pool-side practicing his infamous ‘Gronk Spike’, however, a football was nowhere to be found. Instead, he opted for a watermelon and it made a horrible, horrible mess. Take a look at it in slow mo.

It’s possible the tight end was actually celebrating a piece of news involving the Belmont Stakes. It turns out that a horse will just so happen to be racing with 69/1 odds on June 9 (6/9).

Gronk’s caught quite a few touchdown passes from future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady, so logically he’s spiked a ball or two. Here are some of his best ones from the past.

Rumors spread after the Patriots’ Super Bowl loss that Gronkowski might hang up his cleats, but fortunately he confirmed that he’ll be back in September.

All we can say is thank goodness.
