We’re getting to the time of year where teams will begin to be mathematically eliminated from the NHL playoffs and one team is the first on the chopping block.

The Arizona Coyotes have had a disastrous season so far and are well on their way to having the best odds at this year’s first overall pick. However, they are still technically able to make the playoffs. It is a highly unlikely scenario, but Reddit user Frnklfrwsr worked out one of the scenarios keeping them in contention.

I'm not dead yet! This is the specific scenario required in order for Arizona to still make the playoffs in the 3rd spot in the Pacific from r/hockey

Not only would that get them in the playoffs, but they’d actually be third in their division.

Honestly, all of that could happen and it still might not be the most shocking thing to happen this season. The Vegas Golden Knights will take that award home no matter what this year. Considering how much expansion franchises have struggled in the past, to see a team dominate the way their team has this season, it’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen in the NHL.

Do you believe in miracles?
