Defenceman Sean Durzi’s hockey dream came true over the weekend after he finally heard his name called during the NHL’s Entry Draft.

Durzi, 19, attended last year’s draft but zero organizations called his name. This year he re-entered and after a strong season with the Owen Sound Attack in which he scored 15 goals and recorded 34 assists in 40 games, the Toronto Maple Leafs selected him with the 52nd overall pick. A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Durzi shared an emotional tweet of him with with family members, all of whom were wearing Leafs Jerseys.

Talk about a dream come true!

Durzi posted a separate tweet prior, detailing his struggles during last year’s draft.

Durzi was one of four defenceman selected by the Maple Leafs over the weekend, so his competition to crack the team’s roster will be fierce over the coming years. But for now, all he can really do is continue pinching himself as a reminder that he was just chosen by his childhood team.

Wow.
