Have you ever noticed that some of the NHL’s best stars are oddly similar to your favourite Marvel Characters (Someone should make a movie out of that)?

Yes, we know superheroes aren’t real, but that doesn’t mean they don’t possess humanlike qualities. Seriously… imagine if Marvel’s best characters played in the NHL. How insane would that be?

The harsh reality is that these heroes are fake and will never lace on skates for us in a real game, but there are players in the league who already resemble them (to a degree)! Here are the comparable superstars we found for each one.

Spider-Man: Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid has to be one of the most exciting players to watch in the NHL but when it comes to interviews he can be a little on the quiet side. He’s just an extremely soft-spoken guy that lets his game do the talking. Just like Spiderman, he goes under the radar for the most part but then saves the day when need be. Also, he relies on his spidey-senses to get him out of tough situations.

Black Panther: Wayne Simmonds

One can easily compare Black Panther to Toronto Maple Leafs forward Wayne Simmonds. He’s a natural protector as well as a strong leader on and off the ice. Just like the King of Wakanda, he's physical and highly skilled.

Iron Man: Sidney Crosby

Sidney Crosby’s clearly cut out for the Iron Man position in the NHL. Besides being the Captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the last 13 years, Crosby holds Iron Man’s charisma and characteristics. He’s very confident on the ice and isn’t afraid to show it. Crosby just played his 1,000th game on February 23, 2021, and they have all been played with the Penguins since he was drafted first overall in the 2005 NHL Draft. No Penguins players has ever played as many games as Sid in franchise history.

Hulk: Zdeno Chara

Standing at 6 ft 9 inches, Chara is just a monster on the ice. Just like The Hulk, he’s big, strong and intimidating. Also, he can smash an absolute clapper from the point that no one is trying to get in front of.

Captain America: Auston Matthews

Auston Matthews has quickly earned this title as a natural born leader of the NHL. He was the number one overall pick in the 2016 NHL draft and proved his greatness by breaking multiple records in his rookie season, and became the first U.S. born player to win NHL rookie of the year since 2010. Jump to the 2020-21 season and he’s leading the league in goals at 23 years old. Just like Captain America, the star centre has quickly become the face of the franchise by being dependable for his team in desperate times.

Thor: Joe Thorton

Fine, this one is based mainly on looks. With a beard like Joe Thornton’s, how could it not? Also, the Thor in his last name is only fitting. On the skill side of things, his strength on the puck can be compared to the hammer of Thor, the God of Thunder.

Thanos: NHL pandemic shutdown

We saved the worst for last. What’s bigger nightmare fuel than the NHL having another lockdown due to a world-wide pandemic? In comparison to Thanos erasing half the population, the last thing we want is the NHL season to be canceled.
