It’s finally Christmas day and athletes around the world are taking the time to celebrate with family. Many have taken to social media to wish a simple Merry Christmas to fans in family portraits or with their significant other, and Nashville Predators defenceman P.K. Subban even brought in the holiday by singing a classic tune with his niece Angie.

While most kept it simple, there was one former player who decided to shake things up a bit. Would you be surprised in the slightest if we told you it was former NHL goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov?

Before announcing his retirement in 2015, Bryz enjoyed a rollercoaster of a career. He had some strong statistical seasons but is remembered more for the interesting soundbites he left with fans. Who could forget when he shared his thoughts on the universe ahead of the 2012 Winter Classic?

On Christmas morning, the Russian provided his followers with another hilarious piece of content. Rather than simply wishing a “Merry Christmas” or “happy holidays”, Bryzgalov prompted to ask if anyone had seen Santa last night.

Afterward, he made sure to share an adorable picture of his dog rocking an awesome onesie.

The 37-year-old has never been afraid to speak his mind, so it’s unsurprising that he didn’t take a simple route in wishing everyone good wishes. Whether he actually saw Santa last night or not, it appears as though no one appreciates the holiday season more than Bryz.
