In the absence of Zion Williamson due to knee surgery, Grizzlies rook Ja Morant has lived up to his No. 2 billing and then some.

The point guard out of Murray State already has a couple highlight plays and clutch moments under his belt, none more so than his first NBA game-winner just 11 games into his career against the Hornets on Wednesday.

And this one isn’t easy. This is one-on-one, clock winding down, and then contorting against three defenders in the paint when the help comes to finish the layup for the win. This is a special play by the 20-year-old.

@jamorant wins it for the @memgrizz with the tough drive!

Morant is averaging 17.8 points and 5.2 assists so far — not a bad head start on Zion in the Rookie of the Year race.

He’s already been involved with a memorable duel against one of the league’s premier point guards, Kyrie Irving, when Morant dropped 30 including a clutch layup and block on Kyrie to force overtime.
