Round robin play in Women’s Hockey kicked off with a thrilling matchup between Japan and Sweden that left fans biting their cuticles all game. Both teams exchanged goals throughout the contest, but it was Sweden that ultimately pulled away thanks to a third period goal by forward Sara Hjalmarsson.

Japan didn’t receive the outcome they were hoping for, but already provided Olympic fanatics with what could go down as the best celebration of the Games. After Rui Ukita put home a rebound to tie the game at 1’s, her and teammates came together to perform one of Japan’s greatest traditions.

A bow in Japan is commonly used as a way of greeting, however a longer and deeper one can indicate a sign of respect.

It’s a thrill to be greeted by teammates after a goal, but we’ve definitely never seen a celebration as clever and unique as this one before. Japan is competing in Women’s Hockey for just the third time at the Olympics and are still searching for their first win at the event. Judging by the performance they put on against the Swedes, 2018 could very well be the year that the country earns its first W.

Can you imagine what the team’s celebration would be like if that were to happen?
