It was rumoured for a good while, and on Sunday, it finally came to pass: Marcus Stroman will be heading to the Mets, ending his five-and-a-half year tenure with the Jays.

In return, the Jays will receive a pair of pitching prospects, Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods-Richardson.

While it wasn’t always smooth sailing with the organization, Stroman has always been vocal about his love for the city of Toronto. Now, he’ll head to New York, near where he grew up on Long Island — although it may be a bit of a surprise that he’s joining the sub-.500 Mets instead of the contending Yankees.

Jays fans had plenty of praise for Stroman on his way out, and he thanked the city in return.
