Joe Flacco is somewhat of an enigma in the NFL.

PFTCommenter made the phrase “Is Joe Flacco elite?” after basically every sports talk show asked that question over and over after the Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback won Super Bowl MVP. Yes, he won a Super Bowl and MVP and got one of the biggest contracts in NFL history as a result, but the following stat would suggest he is not and never was elite.

The Pro Bowl is hardly a prestigious event in the NFL, as many of the league’s best players choose to skip the event due to its timing and the strenuous nature of their sport. Still, Joe Flacco is about to become the QB with the most-ever pass attempts without making a Pro Bowl. He is 283 pass attempts away from the all-time lead, and he’s never had less than 413 in a season (That was with 10 games played).

Here’s what some of the other names on that list look like:

Only three other quarterbacks on that list have won a Super Bowl (Craig Morton, Steve Grogan [2] and Doug Williams) and Flacco is tied for the second highest career passer rating on the list. So he ranks well on this list, but it’s a pretty average list to be on.

If there was anybody still curious, it’s pretty clear that Flacco isn’t elite. However, that longevity in the league despite any one stellar season that launched him to the pro bowl is nothing to scoff at. Still, we’re sure he’s hoping to take himself off the list this season.
