Joe Thornton made his NHL debut before a lot of the current NHL players were born, but at age 41 he’s still in the league competing with the best of them.

On Saturday night Jumbo Joe got on the scoresheet for the first time as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs as he found the back of the net for the 421st time in his career.

With the goal, Thornton became the oldest forward to score a goal in a Maple Leafs jersey at 41 years and 189 days, surpassing Ron Francis who scored a goal when he was 41 years and 33 days old back in 2004.

While he’s the oldest forward to ever score in a Maple Leafs jersey, he’s not the oldest player to score a goal in team history as defenceman Allan Stanley holds that record at 41 years and 252 days.

It’s Thornton’s 1,639 career game and he’s got 1,510 points to his name over his carer.
