When it comes to evaluating hockey players, Jon Cooper might be as good as it gets when it comes to NHL head coaches.

He doesn’t have a ring, but the former lawyer has played a part in drafting incredible talent that’s managed to catipalt his team into the league’s top spot. But ahead of his Monday night matinée with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Cooper is more so focused on one of his opponents. The 51-year-old touched on his former 2017 World Hockey Championship player Mitch Marner and expressed his belief that the 21-year-old is not only one of the smartest players in today’s NHL; but also of all time.

Both Cooper and Leafs head coach Mike Babcock clearly have a tremendous amount of respect for one another because the compliments were flying right back in the Lightning’s direction. Babs addressed the Lightning’s roster and went on to call forward Nikita Kucherov the ‘most dangerous player in hockey’. Kuch has 110 points in 68 games this season.

Cooper is just one of the many members in the hockey world who sees tremendous potential in Marner. His teammate Patrick Marleau shared some advice with him in a wholesome moment that might cause some viewers to shed a tear or two.Real recognize real!

Through 68 games this season, Marner leads the Leafs with 82 points. He’ll look to put his hockey IQ on full display as the Leafs attempt to increase their place in the Atlantic Division.
