Ahhhhhh, here were are again. One of the biggest story lines of the year has come in the form of controversy. While video review is supposed to clarify whether or not a goal should count, it has opened a whole can of worms on the subject of goaltender interference.

What exactly is goaltender interference? Well, it appears no one knows. Some fans claim that the current system makes just about as much sense as flipping a coin would.

It’s been so bad, we actually compiled a list of some of the most controversial of the year so far (although there have been a few more since then…).

The latest came in a game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs, and it added a whole other dimension to the controversy. After appearing to score a goal on Frederik Andersen, Pens’ defenceman Brian Dumoulin suddenly found himself in the penalty box. Not only had his goal been disallowed due to goaltender interference, it had actually landed him a penalty. To make matters worse for Dumoulin, Mitch Marner would go onto score with the resulting man advantage.

You can bet we’ll be hearing more about this one in post-game pressers, but you can read all about it right now with a few clicks around the web.
