With the hockey season less than a month away and players returning to the ice with their respective teams, dressing room dynamics have obviously changed as a result of moves made over the summer.

Kasperi Kapanen is not entirely sure about how to feel about about these moves. Specifically, about the dwindling number of Finlanders in the Maple Leafs dressing room, after his Finnish cohort and former roommate, Leo Komarov, signed with the New York Islanders over the summer.

Komarov, affectionately known as ‘Uncle Leo’ in the dressing room and to fans, spent his entire career to this point with the Maple Leafs, playing 327 games and tallying 122 points. The crash-and-bang style forward signed a four year $12 million dollar contract with the Islanders on July 1st.

The Leafs current roster includes two Finnish players, the second one being Kasimir Kaskisuo, so Kapanen won’t be totally alone in his love of saunas and thin pancakes. Still, the Finnish duo pales in comparaison to the whopping 8 Swedes that will sport a Maple Leaf this upcoming season.
