Players ask for trades and are traded all the time, but sometimes we’ll never know the true reason as to why certain players wanted out of certain places.

Pierre-Luc Dubois’ relationship with the Columbus Blue Jackets was sour heading into the 2020-21 season and many expected the team to trade him at some point, so when it finally happened hockey fans weren’t very shocked.

One of the rumoured reasons for Dubois wanting out of Columbus was money, but Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen says “there was never any problems with the negotiation of his contract,” and went into further detail on Leafs Lunch on Monday afternoon.

"... Once the player and the agent wanted to engage in the talks and we agreed on the length, it was a very easy process. There was nothing about these negotiations, and I wish that Pierre-Luc would tell the truth about why he wanted out. He hasn’t even told me, he hasn’t told his teammates or anybody else. It certainly wasn’t about contract negotiations, I can assure you of that.”

First Kekalainen made it seem like there was a different reason for Dubois wanting out that he wasn’t telling to the media, but then mentioned that he believes he hasn’t been told the real reason by the 2016 3rd overall pick.

We’ll probably never know the true reason for Dubois wanting out of Columbus, but he’s with the Winnipeg Jets now and that’s in the past.
