It's October 15th and William Nylander still hasn't signed a deal with the Maple Leafs.

Nobody would have predicted that this is how things would play out for the RFA an the Leafs back in the summer, but unfortunately for both sides, he remains unsigned at the moment.

While Nylander's future with the club remains unclear, there are rumblings about him playing in the KHL this season, especially if he doesn't sign a deal by December 1st.

Avangard owns Nylander's rights and their head coach, Bob Hartley, has been behind the bench in the NHL for a number of years over the course of his career (most recently with Calgary in 2015/16).

If Nylander doesn't sign a contract by December 1st, he'll have to spend the year outside of the NHL and considering there are a ton of former NHL players in the KHL, that may be Nylander's best option.

That said, it's unlikely he goes that route due to the fact that if he intends to return to the NHL this season, he'd have to clear waivers to return.
