Kobe Bryant faced a bit of internet backlash on Wednesday after posting an Instagram caption that seemed to criticize the focus of a player on his youth girls’ basketball team for skipping a game due to a dance recital. Not long after, he edited the caption and addressed the issue on Twitter.
Maybe the best thing to come out of all of this is that Kobe has now posted grainy footage of himself from back in the day, kicking it to Vanilla Ice as a 12 year old.
Alas, Kobe was not giving a middle-schooler the Smush Parker treatment after all. More like Samba Mentality, right??? (Sorry.)
The Instagram caption in question, as originally phrased, was written as such:
“The 7th player (not in pic) missed this game for a dance recital so that should tell you where her focus was at this time.”
Since the edit, the tone is much less pointed, although maybe still a little awkward.
