Back when Jayson Tatum was a wee young fella at the age of 14, the up-and-coming basketball star discovered that you could actually send a personalized message in the form of a tweet to some of the bigger athletes on the planet.

Tatum fired off a tweet to King James, asking for a simple follow back in 2012. You can tell Tatum is just a teenager by the way he worded the tweet.

So, what did it take? Perhaps a massive dunk over LeBron himself.

While it’s not on Twitter, LeBron finally pressed that follow button on Tatum’s Instagram page.

During their post-season series against each other, basketball fans discovered the old tweet and retweeted it in an attempt to make it go viral. Well, it did, but it wasn’t going to catch LeBron’s eye since his annual social media break kicked into effect.

But with the off-season officially here, enough was enough, and James sauced him a follow back.

There’s nothing quite like one of your idols following you on social media, especially when you attended his basketball camps like Tatum did as a kid.
