Let’s give you the lay of the land first. As LSU’s college baseball team faced off against South Carolina in the third round of the SEC Baseball Tournament, the game extended into the 12th inning. LSU had runners on first and third base, but also two outs. Going to bat was sophomore pitcher Todd Peterson in his first collegiate at-bat.

Of course, Peterson crushed a two-run double, and of course, his teammates lost it:

The runs proved timely, too. Although LSU was already up 4-3 before Peterson’s at-bat, South Carolina mustered one run in the bottom of the 12th, meaning that Peterson’s two RBIs were the decider.

Apparently, Peterson convinced his coach to send him out for the at-bat by telling him of his batting experience in high school, but after the game, he revealed that to be a lie. His coach’s reaction is, predictably, nuts:

Oh, and Peterson picked up the win as the team’s closer. Is that a young Shohei Otani we have on our hands?
