The NHL’s goaltender interference rule has received its share of criticism this week after a few controversial calls overruled a handful of goals. On Monday night, Auston Matthews was called for goaltender interference after he slightly touched Colorado Avalanche goaltender Jonathan Bernier in the crease. The following evening, the Chicago Blackhawks got away with a call of their own after forward Artem Anisimov interfered with Leafs netminder Frederick Andersen. We’ll let you be the judge if the right calls were made or not.

Connor McDavid was the latest victim last night after he lightly contacted Calgary Flames goaltender David Rittich before Ryan Strome put home what fans thought to be the game-winner. The league determined that McDavid’s brush of Rittich’s pad was enough to overturn the goal.

Fans, personalities, and former players expressed their frustration with the call afterward, including TSN’s Ray Ferraro and former NHLer Patrick O’Sullivan.

Recently retired NHL star Marc Savard hasn’t been one to hold back with NHL issues on Twitter, and recently shared his thoughts on the NHL’s coach’s challenge. Clearly the former Bruin isn’t pleased with the rule.

Savard’s comments could also have to do with the NHL’s offside review, a part of the game fans have been critical of since its implementation a few years ago. We’re sure Savard isn’t the only one who holds a negative standpoint on the coach’s review, especially Maple Leafs and Oilers fans at the moment.
