Masai Ujiri has become a legend in Toronto after bringing Kawhi Leonard and an NBA championship to Toronto, but his plans for the 2019-20 season haven’t worked out quite as well.

For the first time since Leonard’s decision to leave the team, Ujiri spoke to the media and one comment caught the attention of several media members. Ujiri was asked about how honest the whole free agent situation back and forth was and Ujiri gave a somewhat cheeky answer.

“Uncle Dennis” has become a kind of mythical figure amongst NBA fans as he is described as this mastermind that handles Kawhi’s business and has a greater plan for him. He is Kawhi’s Uncle and it’s possible that Ujiri was pointing out that he wasn’t entirely upfront through this process.

Who knows what this is really about, but considering all of the talk about a potential Paul George trade and that Adrian Wojnarowski said Ujiri felt the team was being used as leverage during that, it could also be about other teams in the process. Either way, it’s definitely seems like Kawhi was trying to throw a little bit of shade at someone.

As for what will happen next season, it sounds like they’ll try to run it back.
